Regions are square areas of land on the map grid which make up the world of Atlas.

Different regions may contain unique resources and discovery areas, both of which are needed to progress in the game, which incentivizes exploration.

Region Types[ | ]

A region may be one of three types

FreePort[ | ]

Your home region, a relatively peaceful area intended for new players to start the game, and for players to trade. All freeports contain a source of food and water, as well as the basic resources, such as stone, flint, wood, and thatch. Freeports will also have a main town with NPCs that sell cosmetics, crew members, and rafts. Only passive animals will spawn in freeports, and players are not allowed to build on the islands. The maximum character level that can be reached while in a freeport is level 8. Ships will rapidly decay while in a freeport, so it is not recommended to stay anchored for long if you make the journey back.

Normal Region[ | ]

A place where players can build and claim territories. Many islands in these regions will not have enough types of resources or animals to progress fully, so further exploration to other regions will be required. Passive, neutral, and aggressive animals will spawn in these regions. Territories that have been claimed will prevent players not in the company from building inside of the territory, unless a company admin allows this in their company settings. Taxation may be enforced inside territories by use of a taxation bank.

Lawless Region[ | ]

Similar to a normal region, but territory claims may not be placed in these regions. Players may build much closer to others, buildings will decay and can be destroyed by other players if not frequently upkept, and players can not be taxed in these regions.

Region climates[ | ]

the climate in a region can be polar, tundra, temperate, equatorial, tropical, or desert

Polar[ | ]

Cold and unforgiving, warm clothes or fires are a must in these regions. Often contain few trees and edible plants, and will be hard to survive on. Plentiful amounts of rock. Home to penguins.

Tundra[ | ]

Cold, not as harsh as polar, slightly more plants and animals.

Temperate[ | ]

A mixed climate. Not too hot or cold. Contains a good variety of resources and animals.

Tropical[ | ]

Hot, but not dry. Lots of edible plants, fibers, wood, and animals here. Monkeys make their home here.

Equatorial[ | ]

Hot and rainy, large amounts of plants, animals, and resources.

Desert[ | ]

Hot and dry, with a fair amount of animals. Edible plants and trees may be more scarce. Fibers and stone will be plentiful. Water is scarce.
