Taming[edit | edit source]
Ostriches can be tamed by using vegetables or berries. Chili are the most effective. They must be carefully taken down to 20% health by avoiding critical hits. Then hit with a Bola and force fed on a timer.
Utility[edit | edit source]
The ostrich is useful for exploring/taming due to its mobility. It moves quickly, can jump far, and with some leveling will easily hold enough weight to match your max weight; but will never hold enough weight for efficient bulk transportation and will be pretty fragile with low HP and resistance. Ostriches can also fit through sloped roof doors, making them easy to transport inside ships for protection. When riding you get a significant Hyperthermal Insulation Buff (more info).
