Usage[ | ]
The Grappling hook is the first unlock of the Pirate skill tree, it has a lot of uses:
- It can be used to pull your self up
- It can be used to get down quickly
- You can swing yourself around to get around obstacles
- You can grab players and pull them to you
- You can grab Flotsam and pull it to you.
As the Grappling hook is cheap an has a wide use it is recommended to always have one lying around in case needed.
However you cannot use it while being Encumbered!
Climbing[ | ]
The Grappling hook is a great climbing device, because it doesn't drain Stamina like its counterpart the Climbing Pick. It is a good strategy to have both equipped and at first throw the Grappling hook. Once the highest position on it is reached, take out the Climbing Pick and proceed with them. This way you have more Stamina to climp up tall hills. It takes a bit of practice because you start falling as soon as letting go of the Grappling hook.
The fastest way to get down of the Crow's Nest or other heights (except of falling), is to throw your Grappling hook on some position onto it and hold . This is much safer than using a Glider Suit because you cannot fall off your ship while doing this.
Player picking[ | ]
It can also be useful to pull some players up. If a fellow crew member has trouble reaching the ladder due to waves, it is possible to save them from being a Shark snack. This might also be useful in PVP to pull players close range.
Animal Picking[ | ]
You can even pickup some small animals like the Parrot, but you pull yourself to the bigger ones like the shark.
