Overview[ | ]

To grow crops farmers must use a Small Crop Plot Small Crop Plot or a Large Crop Plot Large Crop Plot. To build these one needs the Basic Farming skill. The plots must be irrigated either by pipes or rain and haveFertilizer Fertilizer in them.

Crops are grown from seeds which require particular types of soil and Biome. For example, Rice Rice is a crop that can grow in mild and warm climates but not cold biomes.

Crops can be used for Cooking or Taming.

Crop Plots[ | ]

Small Crop Plot Small Crop Plots and Large Crop Plot Large Crop Plots do not have an inventory. All interaction is via mouse-over Use e commands. See below for details.

Seeds[ | ]

Seeds are acquired by harvesting wild plants. Plants vary greatly in appearance and location. The Seeds page lists the known seed types and provides links to each seed's page on this wiki.

Biomes & Soil Types[ | ]

Each Seed type requires a certain type of soil, which is a product of the current biome and the surface on which a crop plot is placed. For example, Tropical Grass is generated by placing a crop plot on grass in a tropical biome. The seed's inventory tooltip lists compatible soil types.

In game terms, biome refers to the environmental characteristics of a region. Each zone/server in the ATLAS world has a specified biome that is used to determine weather, plant types, animal types and other factors for that zone. The wiki Map shows the biomes for the official ATLAS world. Maps on unofficial servers may be highly customized, including island-specific biomes.

The soil sub-type depends on where the plot is placed. Plots may be placed on open ground, underwater or on a Floor (Thatch Floor Thatch Floor, Wood Floor Wood Floor or Stone Floor Stone Floor). Crop plots may not be placed on the Wood Cliff Platform Wood Cliff Platform nor the Stone Cliff Platform Stone Cliff Platform. Prior to placement, the player is notified of both the soil type and the current biome. Placing a crop plot on a Thatch Floor Thatch Floor, Wood Floor Wood Floor or Stone Floor Stone Floor will set the soil type to Thatch, Wood or Rock respectively. For other soil types, plots must be placed on natural surfaces. Types include: Dirt, Flesh, Grass, Ice, Leaves, Rock, Sand, Snow & Water. Terrain boundaries are quite small so several different soil types can often be found in a small area.

As can be seen in the illustration below, the biome is "Eastern Tropics". Placement on a Stone Floor Stone Floor thus creates Tropical Rock type soil.

Water[ | ]

Small Crop Plot Small Crop Plot and Large Crop Plot Large Crop Plot must be supplied with adequate water to support plant growth. In areas that experience rainfall, when exposed to the sky rain should provide sufficient water for most needs. In arid regions, or if rainfall is infrequent, crops may be irrigated using a Water Pipe System Water Pipe System drawing water from a lake or river (not the ocean) or fed by a Stone Water Reservoir Stone Water Reservoir . Small Crop Plot Small Crop Plot/Large Crop Plot Large Crop Plot placed in water require no further irrigation.

Fertilizing[ | ]

Crop plots must be supplied with adequate Fertilizer Fertilizer to support plant growth. Players may craft Fertilizer Fertilizer in their inventory by combining Feces with Thatch. Fertilizer is consumed over time and must be replaced. Plants without Fertilizer Fertilizer will eventually die. To add Fertilizer Fertilizer to a Small Crop Plot Small Crop Plot or Large Crop Plot Large Crop Plot, a player must have Fertilizer Fertilizer in their inventory, look at the Small Crop Plot Small Crop Plot/Large Crop Plot Large Crop Plot and press the Use e.

Planting[ | ]

To add a seedling to a Small Crop Plot Small Crop Plot or Large Crop Plot Large Crop Plot, the player must have a seed in their inventory, look at a crop plot that already contains fertilizer, and press Use e. The player will then be prompted to select which seed to plant.

Growth[ | ]

Once irrigated, fertilized and seeded, a Small Crop Plot Small Crop Plot/Large Crop Plot Large Crop Plot, will begin to grow the plant. There are four stages of growth: Seedling, Midling, Growthling and Fruitling. Once a plant has reached Fruitling, the plot will begin to produce.

Tilling[ | ]

Fertile Small Crop Plot Small Crop Plot/Large Crop Plot Large Crop Plots, may be tilled using a Shovel Shovel. After equipping a shovel, left-clicking on the Small Crop Plot Small Crop Plot/Large Crop Plot Large Crop Plot, will initiate a timer mini-game as used when digging for water or reloading pistols. Soil may be tilled three times for a small bonus in productivity (5% per success). It is worth noting, as of a recent update they have increased the % gains for each tilling. With max rank Soil Tilling, you are able to achieve up to 48% growth rate at 16% per successful attempt.

Harvesting[ | ]

The Small Crop Plot Small Crop Plot/Large Crop Plot Large Crop Plot may be harvested by looking at the plot and pressing the Use e. If the players have fertilizer or seeds in their inventory, it may be necessary to use the radial menu (Hold e) to harvest.
